Rosie Lowe - Right Thing EP
Comparisons to Luara Mvula, Solange Knowles, and Jessie Ware, are being thrown left-right-and-centre at the latest R&B heroine to try out the 2013 throne. Rosie Lowe really does stand out in the crowd though, and it’s all down to her luscious vocals, glitch-hop compositions and slick productions from kwes. and Dave Okumu. There have been some pretty serious debates on which track deserves the most congragulations; the 405 reckon it’s “Games” with its ‘kwes.’ signature urban-decay tones congeal with vaguely tropical guitars and keys’, whereas The Line Of Best Fit puts forward a pretty strong case for “Right Thing”. However, the captivating power of this EP is that each song is different - in tone, style, themes. “Right Thing” is the soulful crowd-pleaser, “10k Balloons” branches off into electronica, “Games” is a slick and feisty take on the resurrected 80s pop genre, and finally “Me and Your Ghost” is the perfect closing song, experimental and entirely fascinating. An undeniable fact that we can all agree on is Rosie Lowe’s evocative, charming, and sweetly sexy voice. If I heard any of these brilliantly creative tracks on the radio I would instabtly breathe a sigh of relief for a break from the indistinguishable dough of much of the beige R&B out there.
